White Paper

Lessons Learned:

I truly had never heard of a white paper prior to this course. Altering from the traditional format of APA that the rest of our papers use was a little difficult to adjust to at first, as I found myself constantly wanting to fix it. What I have learned while writing this paper is that the purpose of a white paper is to advocate how you feel about a certain topic or to educate an audience about a problem and what solution there is to that problem. Regarding the topic of this paper, it allowed us to increase the reader’s knowledge of informatics nurses’ knowledge and skills, the needs of the consumer in healthcare, and how informatics and nursing can contribute to the health of the consumer. This paper allowed me to combine the knowledge that I have gained over the course of this semester but also research other information that I was unaware of.

  1. Ashley,

Thank you for your informative paper. It was very convincing. We as nurses are truly the frontline of patient initiative to drive consumer access to where we can change the culture. Physicians and consumers need to work together to manage their care and have open access to their records.

    Great paper.

  2. Hi Ashley,
What I found interesting in the creation of a white paper is discovering a tool that once was a forum for exchanging researched ideas has now also become a tool for marketing strategies, making the sales pitch seem invincible with the backing of facts and figures. That aside, you did a nice job on your white paper. You made a few convincing statements regarding patient empowerment. Patients who have lost their robust health status already feel a loss of control. Enabling them to recover any sense of control empowers them to make strides in recovery.
